At London Northwestern Railway, we’re committed to supporting the LGBTQIA+ community throughout the year.

As part of Pride month, our internal LGBTQIA+ group, Aspect, has once again explored what Pride means for our colleagues, sharing views from across the business about why Pride matters to us and why it is important to celebrate.

Keep reading to find out what our colleagues have to say about Pride, and what it means to them:

"Pride is an opportunity to both celebrate how far inclusion has come, and reflect on the harm experienced by the LGBT+ community in years gone by. It's a time when you can come as yourself, without judgment, in a supportive environment. I've been to Pride events across the world, and whichever you attend, you'll be welcomed with joy."

“Pride is important to me as it represents an opportunity to be an active ally, celebrate diversity whilst encouraging self-expression, and use my social privilege (as a straight woman) to stand against discrimination. I will always support movements that help create safe environments where people can live authentically.”

“Pride is important to me because it celebrates our ability to express ourselves freely, embrace cultures and ideas, learn from one another, support each other and ultimately, live and love to the fullest."

"Pride is important because it shows people who may not be comfortable telling other people about their sexuality/gender identity that there is a big family ready to accept them once they do feel ready."

‘"To me, Pride is all about showing up for and celebrating my LGBT+ friends and family (and the entire community that they belong to). I’ll never know myself what it’s like to be prejudiced against because of my sexuality, and despite being outraged that this still happens, I’m so proud of those who continue being themselves regardless. If I can do anything to celebrate and support, then there’s no question- I’m in!"

We are proud to support Pride and to champion our LGBTQIA+ colleagues. Many of our employees and their families and friends marched with us at Birmingham Pride on 23 May to show their support.
