You will be representing London Northwestern Railway, helping passengers travel safely, handling unexpected situations and making sure everything is kept on track.

If at first glance, the senior conductor position does not sound right for you, that’s okay. Our careers page gives a good overview of our other career opportunities.

Our Senior Conductor Managers provide leadership, motivation, assistance and support to senior conductors. They ensure operational safety whilst contributing to improving train performance and aim to achieve revenue and customer satisfaction targets in support of the overall service delivery plan.

You don’t need a history with trains to work with LNR.

The Senior Conductor role is all about people - we’re looking for individuals who are naturally great with others, stay composed under pressure, and have a knack for conflict resolution and problem solving. If you’re a teacher used to managing busy classrooms, or someone with experience in fast-paced, customer-facing environments, you already have the key qualities to succeed as a Senior Conductor.

What our Senior Conductors say

"As a Senior Conductor, my priority is passenger safety, well-being, and getting people to their destinations on time. My decades at Royal Mail gave me a solid foundation for this role especially in customer service, problem-solving, and working under pressure.

At Royal Mail, I dealt with a wide range of customers daily, from those chasing birthday cards to business clients managing deliveries. That experience taught me how to read people quickly and respond appropriately - skills I now use with passengers, whether they’re commuting, holidaying, or hopping on for a couple of stops.

I’m used to shift work and route learning, having covered everything from urban to rural delivery paths. That’s helped me adapt to the varied hours and route knowledge required as a conductor.

Ultimately, my past experience taught me how to stay calm under pressure, communicate clearly, and find practical solutions fast — all essential in keeping trains running smoothly and passengers happy."

How to apply

Like we said, Senior Conductors do more than just issue and check tickets. The role is BIG, involving safety critical tasks and exceptional customer service skills. We’re looking for the right people to do the job and as such the recruitment process can be lengthy.
