The Next Stop

London Northwestern Railway are embarking on a fundraising adventure to raise money for, Alzheimer Society, our chosen charity, as we aim to raise £10,000 for the organisation.

Last year, it was announced that dementia was the UK’s largest killer, overtaking heart disease from the year before. There are more than 850,000 people in the UK who are living with dementia, which affects our customers, colleagues, families and communities across our network.

Through our partnership with the Alzheimer’s Society , we are helping to make changes that will have an impact on people living with dementia in our communities. Not only are we committed to becoming a dementia friendly network, we have also launched our fundraising campaign, ‘The Next Stop’.

The Next Stop will see London Northwestern Railway employees and family members embark on a fundraising mission, aiming to raise a whopping £10,000 overtime to help the charity continue their amazing work and vital research.

In order to do this, as a business we are looking to collectively walk, run, swim, cycle and skip our way to the £10,000 milestone by travelling 655 miles (the equivalent to the whole of the London Northwestern and West Midlands Railway network combined). But this doesn’t come easily. To reach the target, a lot of hard work, sweat… and potentially some tears, will need to be shed in helping raise money. To do this, our colleagues, friends and family are getting onboard with their own fundraising activities.

Ruth’s Crossing Challenge

During the month of October, our London Northwestern Railway ticket officer, Ruth, has ‘stepped-up’ to the challenge of crossing Winsford Station bridge a grand total of 655 times!

To make it even harder, Ruth fit this into just 17 shifts, meaning she needed to cross the bridge approximately 39 times during each shift between serving customers and other duties.

Thank you everyone who popped by Winsford Station to donate, she has raised an amazing £356.06! Everyone at London Northwestern Railway congratulates Ruth on completing her challenge.

Ruth’s completed her target of: 655 crossings!
