We are proud to be supporting Prostate Cancer UK and PHS Group by signing up to the BOG Standard Charter, supporting men living with incontinence, and we are pleased demonstrate our commitment to this cause by attaining Bronze accreditation.
The BOG Standard campaign, set up by PHS Group, encourages organisations to support men living with incontinence, so that they feel confident and supported when out and about or in the workplace. We know that men living with this condition – many of whom have had prostate cancer - are severely impacted by the lack of available public facilities to dispose of used sanitary products.
Studies find that four in five men who have had prostate cancer and who have incontinence avoid taking part in activities that require using public facilities because of inadequate toilet and bin facilities. This can go on to have impact on their wider mental health and wellbeing
We want our customers and colleagues who experience incontinence to be able to travel and come to work without feeling anxious about whether they can dispose of used sanitary products discretely.
As a result, we have installed 177 bins at 102 locations across our network, including public toilets at the stations that we manage, as well as at our depots, train crew facilities and head office. We’ve also provided information in our toilets to raise awareness of prostate cancer and to help break down stigma around male incontinence.
We hope signing up to the BOG Standard Charter will enable more men living with incontinence to live their lives with confidence and dignity.
