London Northwestern Railway invites passengers to name Invictus Games Foundation train

London Northwestern Railway (LNR) has announced a collaboration with the Invictus Games Foundation to unveil a specially branded train in support of next year’s Invictus Games in Birmingham – and passengers are being invited to help choose its name.

Tens of thousands of spectators from around the world are expected to attend the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027, which will be hosted at the city’s National Exhibition Centre and Sandwell Aquatics Centre in July next year.

To mark one year to go until the event, LNR and sister operator West Midlands Railway (WMR) have partnered with the Invictus Games Foundation to give the public the chance to vote for their favourite name idea from four options:

  • The Spirit of Invictus
  • The William Ernest Henley [author of “Invictus” poem]
  • Unconquered
  • Master Of My Fate

Voting closes on Sunday 14 June and the winning name will be unveiled next month.

Jonny Wiseman, customer experience director at LNR and WMR, said: “The Invictus Games coming back to the UK is a hugely important prospect for Birmingham and the wider region, and we’re excited for the opportunity next year to watch the sporting action in person, and show our support for those who served.

“To celebrate the official one-year countdown, we will unveil a specially branded train in partnership with the Invictus Games Foundation which we’re inviting the public to help us name. Voting closes on Sunday, so make sure to choose your favourite by visiting our website.”

The Invictus Games Foundation is the leading global organisation supporting international wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans through the power of sport. In the Foundation’s role as governing body of the Invictus Games, the power of sport is used to inspire positive change, improve lives, and drive progress towards a better, more inclusive future for those who have served.

Rob Owen, CEO of the Invictus Games Foundation, said, “We are delighted to be working with London Northwestern Railway on this collaboration, and are extremely grateful for the opportunity to showcase our charity as the train will make its way across the region. We’re hopeful that all passengers will be inspired to show their support for the Armed Forces community, and particularly those injured in service.”

The Invictus Games Birmingham 2027, led by a separate UK-based organising committee, will feature 550 wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans from 25 nations competing in 12 adaptive sports to support their recovery and inspire others through their resilience.
