Our rail network conveniently connects you to some of the country's most compelling historic locations - from imposing Roman fortresses and majestic castles to the clandestine corners of WW2 codebreaking hideouts - making it a breeze to leave the twenty-first century behind. St George’s Hall 🏛️

Fancy a historic Liverpudlian adventure? Hop off the train at Liverpool Lime Street Station (the world’s oldest grand terminus mainline station still in operation!) and take a short, 5-minute stroll to St George’s Hall . This world-famous, Grade-I listed building is a neoclassical masterpiece. It first opened in 1854 and has served as a key cultural centre in the city ever since, hosting everything from royal visits to protests and concerts. 🎼🎻

Stafford Castle 🏰

If medieval history is more your thing, jump on a train to Stafford. From there, board the 5A bus for 5 stops to Thorneyfields Lane, and walk 8 minutes in the footsteps of the Normans to Stafford Castle .

Robert of Stafford built the castle around 1100 AD. Today, experts see it as one of the best examples of Norman earthworks still standing in the country. The castle spans over 26 acres of land and features a keep, inner and outer baileys, woodland, and even a herb garden! 🌲🌳

If you’re a castle lover, hop on an LNR train to Tamworth and you’ll find yourself a 14-minute walk from a genuine Anglo-Saxon treasure. Tamworth Castle holds nearly 1000 years of history, spanning Medieval, Tudor, and Victorian England.

Move between the castle’s chambers and uncover the stories of the castle, from royal visits to expelled nuns, and keep your eye out for the dungeons and the haunted bedroom! 👻Plus, if you fancy donning some armour, you can even pick up a sword, sit on the throne in the mead hall, and test your battle strategy skills! ⚔️

For a glimpse into recent history, a train trip to Birmingham will drop you a 5-minute walk away from the last surviving court of back-to-back houses built for the city’s working-class people in the 19th century.

The cathedral’s grand exterior hides a secret past, as the building stands beside the preserved ruins of the original Medieval parish church destroyed by incendiary bombs during the Blitz in November 1940.
