Sefton Park Palm House

The elegant glass ‘Great Conservatory’ has been enjoyed by the public since 1896 – after it was gifted to the city by a local benefactor. Inside this multi-million pound restored Grade II-listed exotic palm house, sunlight pours through the high ceilings in its grand central dome.

Filled with vibrant vegetation in themed botanical displays like orchids, ferns and cycads, Sefton Park Palm House is a perfect tranquil space for escaping the busy city streets. Stroll around the tiered levels and balconies to see the plants from every angle, or pause for some refreshments at the café or tearoom.

St. Lukes Church

Reclaimed by nature, winding vines climb the 1800s ruins of St. Lukes Church and bushy plants catch the sun shining through its open top. Just after midnight on the 6 May 1941 this former Anglican church was decimated by a bomb during the May Blitz of World War II. Now you can walk through the grounds and relax with a picnic on the grass. Throughout the year you can catch creative and cultural events, markets and open-air viewings at the pop-up cinema.

Wallasey Beach

If you fancy a dip, you won’t be limited to indoor pools during your trip to Liverpool. Wallasey Beach is part of the North Wirral Coastal Park and is one of the best spots for swimming and sunbathing. It’s also dog friendly all year round if you’re visiting with a four-legged friend. Spend a sunny afternoon relaxing on the one-mile stretch of soft golden sands backed by dunes and nature reserves. On rare occasions, Whales have been spotted in the waters near here.

Chinatown

Chinatown in Liverpool is the oldest in Europe and was established in the 1860s after the first Chinese migrants arrived. Enter this colourful and distinct area of the city through the grand intricately decorated archway which was imported from Shanghai and is the tallest outside of mainland China. Lining the streets are authentic bakeries, emporiums, and restaurants. Pop into Bao & Bap for a fluffy, filled bao bun or some pan-Asian cuisine at Chamber 36 .

St John’s Beacon

See the city from an entirely new perspective, 400 feet in the sky from the 360 degree viewing tower – St John’s Beacon . On a clear day, the mountain peaks of Snowdonia, Blackpool and Lancashire are visible on the horizon. For 815 years, this radio broadcasting tower has been an iconic marker in the Liverpool skyline. As well as being the base for Radio City and Greatest Hits Radio, the public are welcome to brave its heights seven days a week from 11:00 to 17:30 on a weekday and 18:00 on a weekend.

FACT Liverpool

Capturing modern-day living in a digital world, FACT Liverpool’s thought-provoking collection of exhibitions by world-class artists and curators reflect the effects of new technology in our society. In the form of art and film, this contemporary immersive attraction is a place to learn, experiment and feel inspired. Inside you’ll find two large art galleries, three cinemas, an experimentation lab, a café and a bar.

Tate Liverpool

Global masterpieces of modern and contemporary paintings, sculptures and installations can be admired at the Tate Liverpool . As Tate Liverpool is getting a £29.7m makeover to refresh the gallery, the building at the Royal Albert Dock is closed for renovation. But don’t worry, Tate Liverpool has relocated to RIBA North, Mann Island, which is just 425m away from the Royal Albert Docks. You can still enjoy a reduced range of exhibitions and other events such as family activities, talks, tours and creative workshops.

Travel back to 1200AD and surround yourself with delicate artefacts from the ancient world like astronomical texts, Egyptian statues and a mummified cat. Immerse yourself in the physics and science space, where you can see a 1968 rocket and a giant telescope.

Lady Lever Art Gallery

Admire the fine and decorative art showcased inside of the elegant stone-built Lady Lever Art Gallery . Home to over 12000 objects, you can see pre-Raphaelite paintings, Chinese ceramics and some of the world’s greatest Wedgewood jasperware. Take a seat at the cafe for some refreshments and see one of the special temporary exhibits which change throughout the year.

Laughterhouse Comedy at The Slaughter House

Grab a pint from the bar and brave a front-row seat at this intimate, underground venue if you can handle a roasting. For over a decade, Laughterhouse Comedy has been cracking up audiences with some of the best stand-up comedians in the UK. The Slaughter House has hosted the likes of John Bishop, Sarah Millican and Dara O’Brian since opening its doors in 2004.

Royal Albert Dock

Going for a stroll around Royal Albert Dock is a must while doing some Liverpool sightseeing. As well as being an attractive waterfront location with views of the River Mersey and the city skyline, it’s also of significant historical importance.

This UNESCO World Heritage Site, built in the mid-19th century, was the first warehouse in Britain made from cast iron, brick and stone – making it entirely fireproof. It then became a dominating part of global trade in the 19th century and a crucial base in World War II.
