The train companies, working together in partnership, are offering up to 50% off selected Advance tickets on over 1 million journeys from participating retailers. Where a participating train company doesn’t offer Advance tickets, Off-Peak tickets may be offered as an alternative.

The following train companies will be taking part in the Great British Rail Sale: Southeastern, London North Eastern Railway, Avanti West Coast, Greater Anglia, South Western Railway, Great Western Railway, Northern, C2C, Chiltern, London Northwestern Railway, Cross Country, East Midlands Railway, West Midlands Railway, Southern, Govia Thameslink Railway, Great Northern, TransPennine Express, Grand Central and Transport for Wales.

Great British Rail Sale tickets will be available from 00.01 on 23rd January – 23.59 on 29th January 2024 for travel between 30th January and 15th March 2024. Tickets must be purchased a minimum of 7 days in advance of the date of travel.

The discount will be available on selected Advance tickets. Where a participating train company does not offer Advance tickets, Off-Peak tickets may be offered as an alternative. Customers should visit nationalrail.co.uk/railsale to see what discounts are available for the location they wish to visit.

Great British Rail Sale tickets will be available on train companies operating in England, excluding London Overground, London Underground, Elizabeth Line, Hull Trains, Merseyrail, Lumo, Gatwick Express, Heathrow Express and Stansted Express. They will be available to purchase from participating train companies and retailers.

The discount will be available on selected Advance tickets of all DfT Franchised Train Operators in England and Grand Central. Where a participating train company does not offer Advance tickets, Off-Peak tickets may be offered as an alternative.

Over 1 million Great British Rail Sale tickets will be available to buy from 23rd January until 29th January 2024, for travel between 30th January and 15th March 2024.

Yes, your ticket can be used for whatever journey purpose you wish, but you are only able to travel on the date and train shown on your ticket or for the journey you booked.

No, there is no additional discount available with Railcard.

If the train you purchased a ticket for is cancelled or is delayed and you still decide to travel, special arrangements will be made to accommodate you on another train (although a seat cannot be guaranteed). If you choose not to travel a refund will be offered on completely unused tickets and you will not be charged an administration fee. For other operators, please contact your chosen train company or where the ticket was purchased for more information.

Great British Rail Sale tickets may be issued with reservation tickets which must be carried when travelling. We do not offer seats reservations on our trains. In this case, you may sit in any available seat on the specified train.

You can however change the time or date of travel before departure of the first reserved train. Any difference in fare and an administration fee will be payable prior to travel. We are only offering Single tickets though some Return tickets will be made available during the Great British Rail Sale through other operators. However, the majority will be Single tickets only. If you wish to find a Single ticket for the return leg of your journey you will need to search on our journey planner.

Great British Rail Sale tickets are not refundable unless the service you are booked to travel on is delayed or cancelled and you choose not to travel.

1.1 - These terms and conditions apply to the Great British Rail Sale, a promotion coordinated by ATOC Ltd on behalf of participating Train Companies for the Promotional Period.

1.2 Over one million promotional Rail Sale Tickets will be available on selected journeys across the National Rail network (in England and to/from Scotland and Wales) for the Promotional Period.

1.3 The Promotional Period will run from 00:01 on 23rd January 2024 until all Rail Sale Tickets have been sold or 23:59 on 29th January 2024, whichever is sooner, for travel between 30th January 2024 and 15th March 2024. The number of Rail Sale Tickets available during the Promotional Period is limited and subject to availability (see clause 2 below).

1.4 Great British Rail Sale Tickets are selected Advance or Off-Peak tickets with fares discounted by individual participating Train Companies, up to 50% off the equivalent full price Advance ticket fare. Where a participating Train Company does not offer Advance tickets, Off-Peak ticket fares may be offered as an alternative. Rail Sale Tickets are not available on all routes or all journeys and may not represent the lowest available fare for a particular journey.

1.5 Rail Sale Tickets must be purchased a minimum of 7 days in advance of travel.

1.6 The Great British Rail Sale is promoted via the Great British Rail Sale website and Rail Sale Tickets are available to purchase via participating Train Companies and train ticket retailers for the Promotional Period. This is an online only sale, please contact the relevant participating Train Companies if you require assistance or have specific accessibility requirements.

1.7 Some retailers may charge a booking fee on promotional tickets. Please refer to individual retailers for more details.

1.8 Rail Sale tickets are valid only on the date and train shown on the ticket and seat reservation and are non-refundable unless you are unable to travel due to a delay or cancellation. Changes to the time or date of travel are possible before departure of the first reserved train. Differences in fare and administration fees may apply.

2.0 Selected Routes, Limited Availability and Exclusions

2.1 The number of Rail Sale Tickets offered by each participating Train Company will vary and are limited in number.

2.2 Tickets are not available on all routes and at some peak times and are not offered by all Train Companies. See the list of participating Train Companies here .

2.3 Availability is subject to specific travel exclusions across some routes due to engineering improvement works. For more details of engineering works please refer to participating Train Company websites.

2.4 Railcard discounts do not apply to Great British Rail Sale tickets, and no other discounts can be used in conjunction with the Great British Rail Sale tickets.

2.5 This promotion is limited to Standard Class tickets. Some participating Operating Companies may offer First Class or Standard Premier tickets, but numbers may be limited and are offered solely at the discretion of the participating Train Company.

2.6 Child tickets can be purchased with the Great British Rail Sale from participating Train Companies and ticket retailers.

3.0 General

3.1 ATOC Ltd reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions without notice and to take appropriate action to close the offer or withdraw the Rail Sale Tickets from sale at any time.

3.2 Usual Train Company terms and conditions of purchase, National Rail Conditions of Travel, Advance and Off-Peak ticket terms and conditions apply.
