Planned Train Disruptions and Engineering Works

To improve and maintain the railway, Network Rail regularly carry out planned engineering and improvement work on our lines. Below are some of the essential engineering and improvement works that may affect you. So please, plan your journey in advance or keep up to speed with our online live departure and arrival boards.

Essential works are being delivered in October, impacting journeys across our network. If you’re travelling during this time, please remember to plan ahead. Check the information below to see if your journey will be impacted.

Crewe - Stafford via Stoke-on-Trent

  • On Sunday 3 October, buses replace trains between Crewe – Stafford via Stoke-on-Trent.

To/from London Euston (including Trent Valley services to/from Crewe)

  • On Sunday 10 October (all day) and until 19.00 on Sunday 31 October, buses replace trains between Rugby – Northampton – Milton Keynes Central.
  • A revised timetable will be running between London Euston – Tring / Northampton / Birmingham New St / Crewe.

Journeys through Wolverhampton

Sunday 10 October

  • Buses replace trains between Birmingham New St – Wolverhampton calling at all stations.
  • Long distance services to/from Liverpool will be diverted between Wolverhampton – Birmingham New St.

Sunday 31 October

  • Trains will be running between Liverpool – Crewe, Crewe – Stafford (via Stoke-on-Trent) and Tipton – Birmingham New St.
  • Buses replace trains between Stafford – Wolverhampton, and Wolverhampton – Tipton.

Essential engineering and improvement works are taking place across the network in September. As a result, there will be some changes to services on some routes.

Services to/from London Euston (including Trent Valley services to/from Crewe)

As a result of essential engineering and improvement works, service changes will be in place on the following dates:

Saturday 4 & Sunday 5 September

  • An amended timetable will be running between Crewe / Birmingham New St / Northampton – London Euston (fewer trains will be running)

Sunday 12 & Sunday 26 September

  • Rail replacement buses will be running between Milton Keynes Central – Northampton / Rugby (calling at Long Buckby and Wolverton)
  • An amended timetable will be running between Crewe / Birmingham New St / Northampton – London Euston (fewer trains will be running)
  • All of our rail replacement transport is fully accessible

Crewe – Stoke-on-Trent – Stafford

Sunday 5 September

  • Rail replacement buses will be running between Crewe – Stafford via Stoke-on-Trent
  • All of our rail replacement transport is fully accessible

Rail replacement pick up & drop off points for Pottery stations:

  • Alsager: Buses towards Stoke pick up opposite the Alsager Arms public house, buses towards Crewe pick up outside the Alsager Arms public house
  • Kidsgrove: Buses pick up and drop off from on the approach to the station
  • Stoke-on-Trent: Buses pick up and drop off from in front of the station
  • Stone: Buses towards Stoke pick up from Crown Street bus stop, buses towards Crewe pick up from Poste of Stone Public house
