Tring’s roots are tied to prominent historical figures like George Washington and the Rothschild family, and history buffs can dive deep into Tring’s little-known links on a trip to this hidden gem town. Explore the architecture left behind by ‘Natty’ Rothschild, and discover the 15th-century Tring Church that boasts medieval carvings and a classic Hertfordshire spike. The church, overlooking the greenery of Church Square, is the burial place of many of the British-born Washington family members, and visitors can step inside to see the Washington family tree on display.

Expanding your journey beyond the church, Tring boasts a charming array of traditional English cottages and Georgian architecture. The town is best discovered on foot and you’re guaranteed to find some historical architectural gems that will inspire you.

The Tring Memorial Gardens is a short 3-minute walk from the church and is a great spot to continue diving into the town’s history and stop off for a picnic. Pop in at Beans N’ Brunch for a coffee and a pasty, plonk yourself down in the Memorial Gardens and enjoy an afternoon of people-watching on the banks of the koi-filled pond.

Making sure you’re well-fed for all your excursions is an important part of travelling and Tring has a fantastic mix of places to eat and drink, whether you're in the mood for casual dining or something a bit fancier.

Culture Bakery is known for its artisan bread and freshly baked pastries, making it a great stop for breakfast or a mid-morning snack. And for coffee lovers, Black Goo Coffee is a local favourite, serving up top-quality brews alongside homemade cakes.

If you're after a relaxed pub atmosphere, a good Sunday roast or bottomless brunch, The Akeman is a chic spot just off the high street with a great selection of food and drinks. For a cosy Italian meal, Storia offers delicious, wood-fired pizzas in a welcoming setting.

Looking to end the day with an evening of finery? Crockers provides an intimate chef’s table experience and Barracuda serves up Mediterranean-inspired small plates in a stylish setting, both right on the high street!

If you’re visiting Tring by train, there is no doubt that you’ll be astonished by the natural beauty of the area from the moment you arrive. The Tring Station is located 1.5 miles outside of town, nestled in the undeveloped East side of Tring. So while it’s not the most convenient location, the walk into town is incredibly scenic.

Tring Park is a sprawling natural space that’s perfect for walking, cycling, or simply unwinding while taking in the stunning countryside views.

For wildlife enthusiasts, College Lake Nature Reserve is a former chalk quarry transformed into a haven for birds and other wildlife, with plenty of walking trails to explore. Spend a day in nature, unwinding and making memories with yourself or loved ones.

Exploring is thirsty work, so what better way to end off the day than to pop into Tring Brewery ? Located on the picturesque Dunsley Farm this brewery pays homage to the brewing history of Tring and offers an array of award-winning brews and tasty bar snacks.

If you’re travelling with furry friends in tow, The Bell at Tring is a good spot to enjoy some carefully selected wines or award-winning ales. Alberto’s dog-friendly establishment is centrally located on the high street with refurbished interiors and a scenic courtyard to enjoy a drink and some pub grub.

For those taking the break from the city seriously, the Kings Arms offers a cosy atmosphere and a solid drinks menu with the added bonus of no digital distractions. With no TVs, no jukebox and no digital gaming equipment, the Kings Arms is the perfect spot to relax and have a chin-wag.

Tring might not have a sprawling high street, but it offers a selection of charming independent shops and boutiques. This little town is not where you’ll go to empty your wallet on big brand names but rather trawl for treasure in the many thrift shops and independent shops.

The Market House on the high street is a quaint gift shop offering a mix of homeware, books, and locally made products. Fancy That is an equally unique gift shop full of quirky finds and House of Cards is the perfect place to pick up a postcard or greeting card to remember your visit.
