Our Way to Work scheme helps you get on track with your career goals, by offering free rail travel to interviews, training and employment.

What do you get

Sometimes in life, you need a little help along the way, which is why our Way to Work scheme helps support your next career step by:

  • Providing up to 6 vouchers for free rail travel to job interviews
  • Granting a month of free rail travel when attending employability courses, skills/training classes or placement experiences*
  • Offer up to 3 months free rail travel following your job appointment or apprenticeship start

*may be extended in special circumstances

Before you start

Before you start applying, ask yourself:

Am I eligible?

To be eligible for the programme you have either:

  • Secured an apprenticeship that has not already commenced
  • Graduated from university, further or higher education within the last 6 months and have not yet found employment
  • Been unemployed for 3 months or longer and are registered on Jobseeker's training/employability programme through JobCentre Plus or an approved partner

What do I need?

When applying for our Way to Work scheme you must also submit one item of your choice from the list below (please note that we can not return any documents. Copies are accepted).

If you are registered with JobCentre Plus or an approved agency:

  • Jobseeker's Allowance Confirmation Letter
  • Universal Credit Award Letter/ Statement (the top part with name/reference)
  • Print out of JobCentre Plus journal entry stating the name of the job coach and your duration of unemployment
  • Letter of the official email stating that you have been unemployed for at least three months prior to your application

If you have secured an apprenticeship in the last month:

  • Letter or email from your employer confirming your apprenticeship
  • If you have graduated from a University or place of further or higher education within the last 6 months:
  • Copies of your university/college degree or further education qualifications
