Trains to Coventry

The eclectic history of Coventry makes this city a great weekend-break destination. Coventry predates both Birmingham and Leicester, and was the UK’s economic capital in the 15th century. From cloth to clock making, Coventry was a huge centre for commerce and trade during the pre-war years. However, in 1940 the Luftwaffe launched a devastating bombing raid, leaving the medieval city in ruins. The city centre was rebuilt, but you can still see the bombed out remains of the 15th century St Michael’s Cathedral. There are plenty of things to do in Coventry. The city has a whole host of museums, including Coventry Transport Museum, which houses the largest collection of British-made cars, motorcycles and pushbikes that represent Coventry’s history as the car manufacturing capital of the world. As Coventry prepares for its year in the spotlight as the UK City of Culture in 2021, this city will certainly be one to watch in the coming years.
